Padded Hand Mitts: These elasticated slip-on design hand mitts are made with a layer of foam padding included for comfort. Good for beginners practising punching. Provides ultimate protection to hand to prevent against injury. Machine washable.

Shin & Instep Guards: These elasticated slip-on design shin and instep guards are made with a layer of foam padding on entire shin and instep offering extra protection as well as comfort. As well as this, these pads are very versatile and are allowed to be used in various games or sports which require ultimate protection to the shin. Machine washable.

Gum shields (Blitz): High-quality mouthpieces with a double guard system. As well as allowing easy breathing, it also provides much-needed mouth protection from direct face contact.

Martial Arts comes with a risk of head injuries that may result in concussion. To keep all students safe, Coastline Martial Arts enforces strict sparring safeguards:

• Non‑contact/tap sparring only in after‑school classes.
• No head contact for under‑14s.
• Light head contact only (14–18 years) – never to the face, jaw, or chin.
• Head guards and gumshields compulsory for all sparring members aged 14+.
• Strict 1:8 instructor‑to‑student ratio during sparring.
• Kill‑switch safe word “STOP” may be used by any student or instructor at any time.
• Parents must agree to adhere to this policy before any sparring. Students must also sign to consent to any contact sparring.

Coastline Martial Arts treats repeated head injuries as potential safeguarding concerns. All incidents are recorded confidentially on the BMABA safeguarding platform and reviewed by the Safeguarding Officer. Children will never be pressured to continue training, and all data is handled in line with GDPR and safeguarding standards.

“If in Doubt – Sit Out” Policy

If a student experiences any head impact that causes concern for a concussion, they must stop training immediately. Instructors will remove the student from the activity and notify parents. Students will not be allowed to leave the activity unsupervised. This applies to both children and adults. The student must seek medical attention within 24 hours of the injury.

28‑Day Return‑to‑Play Policy

After any confirmed or suspected concussion, students must rest for a minimum of 28 days before returning to training. Return is only permitted when:

• The rest period has passed.
• A minimum of 14 days symptom-free
• A parent/guardian confirms the student is fit to return.
• A medical professional has cleared the student.
• A graduated return-to-play approach will be adopted.
• Students who attend after-school classes will be refunded/have credit carried over for any classes missed due to the 28-day return-to-play policy, for any head injuries acquired during Coastline Martial Arts training/classes.

If symptoms reappear, the student will be removed again and referred for medical review.

Parent/Guardian Responsibilities

Parents/guardians must:

• Inform instructors of any previous head injuries.
• Monitor their child after any suspected concussion.
• Seek medical advice within 24 hours of the injury.
• Follow the 28‑day return‑to‑play guidance.
• Inform Coastline Martial Arts of any medical diagnosis.
